Private Domain Name Registration |
|
ICANN, the international governing body for domain names, requires every Registrar to maintain a publicly accessible "WHOIS" database displaying all contact information for all domain names registered. Private registration is an optional process you can use to keep any private information regarding your domain registration from being stored in the Whois database. When you register a domain name, ICANN requires that your address, e-mail and phone number be published in the public WHOIS database which is available for anybody to view on the Internet. Private Registration shields your personal information from public view. You may choose to make your registration private during the domain name registration process which will keep any personal information regarding your domain registration from being stored in the Whois database. If you choose to use the private registration process then the contact information for Domains By Proxy will appear in the Whois database. You retain all rights to the domain registration and Domains By Proxy serves as the intermediary (or “proxy”) between you (the domain registrant) and any outside correspondence. Private registration customers can modify account settings and track domain-related correspondence. If you select private registration, your personal information is shielded from public display, and a private email address allows you to control who reaches you.
